Case Hardening Carburization

Similar to our Nitriding process (nitrogen infusion), salt pot carburizing increases strength by infusing carbon into the steel surface creating a case while retaining a lesser hardness in the core. Case depth or diffusion is process and steel dependent and can exceed .050” if required. This process is terrific for most carbon steel applications and is typically used for gears, pinions, wear plates and die forms.

Our Carburizing and hardening systems can accommodate sizes up to 24″dia x 40″long and weights up to 2500 lbs. We have capabilities to sand blast or glass bead finishing. In most cases parts can be turned around within 24 hours.

Thermal Diffusion Extreme Carbide System (TD Coating) is a superior adhesion process which successfully applies a layer of vanadium carbide coating to metal adding long term, uniform and resilient anti-corrosion protection primarily for dies (forming, stamping and piercing) and extrusion tooling.  TD is the number one requested coating at Surface Heat Treat and Coating. It performs exceptionally well on tool steels such as AISI D-2, AISI A-2, and AISI H-13.

With over 5,000 lbs of furnace capacity, around the clock production and decades of experience Surface Heat Treat and Coatings can handle almost any sized heat treating job. Our vacuum furnaces meet all pyrometric requirements and are certified to the AMS 2750 standard guaranteeing temperature uniformity. Parts treated in a vacuum environment maintain dimensional stability, remain clean and free from contaminates, oxidation and decarburization.

Arcor Nitriding

The benefits of Arcor® or Ferritic Nitrocarburizing surface treatment are many and include exceptional resistance to wear, seizure, scuffing, fatigue and corrosion. This non-toxic economical process is carried out at low temperatures mitigating part distortion and can be applied to most steels and cast iron.
